IABC-L.A.’s Annual Banquet 2010 with Keynote Speaker Ernest J. Wilson III
On June 16, 2010, at IABC-L.A.’s Annual Banquet 2010, the chapter presented “Putting Communications at the Center – A Way to Frame the Future of Media, Public Relations and the World” at the trendy venue of First & Hope Downtown Supper Club.
After cocktails, a Downtown family-style dinner and some lively networking, the chapter welcomed and was challenged by esteemed keynote speaker, Ernest J. Wilson III, Dean, USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, to “figure out or fail” in the ever-changing new media environment. Dean Wilson relayed a quote “The new rules environment has created both a blessing and a curse of the nearly unmanageable deluge of information essential to the communications function.” The Dean also encouraged “weird experience and weird stuff” works to our advantage to figure it out (!) Wilson Presents at FCC - “Public and Other Noncommercial Media in the Digital Era”
As part of its project on the Future of Media and the Information Needs of Communities, the Federal Communications Commission held a workshop on April 30, 2010 on noncommercial media entitled “Public and Other Noncommercial Media in the Digital Era." Ernest J.Wilson III, Chair, Corporation for Public Broadcasting presented on a panel "Framing Presentation: A 1967 Moment… A Vision for Public Media" at 9:15 a.m. with Luis Ubiñas, President, Ford Foundation.

FCC Announces Agenda of Second Future of Media Workshop
As part of its project on the Future of Media and the Information Needs of Communities, the Federal Communications Commission will hold a workshop on April 30, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Commission Meeting Room, Room TW-C305, at 445 12th Street, S.W., Washington, D.C., on noncommercial media entitled “Public and Other Noncommercial Media in the Digital Era." Hollywood stars? I prefer a media summit any day
Ernest Wilson, the dean of the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California and the chairman of the board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, flew in from New York. “It helped me understand the needs of the region, and what I can do in partnerships that I have here to contribute to the region,” he told my colleague Keach Hagey on the summit’s final day. Demand Media assembles editorial advisory group
The Web site developers behind one of the most visited sites in the U.S., eHow.com, has assembled a comprehensive editorial advisory committee of educational, business and media specialists.
Santa Monica, Calif.-based Demand Media Inc., which has an office in Austin, created the board to counsel on the ongoing development of the company’s content and programming efforts, according to a release today. Read More »

International Seminar on Network Theory: Network Multidimensionality in the Digital Age
The international Network Theory Conference, organized by the ANN and SONIC research centers, took place on Feb 19-20 at the University of Southern California. Bruno Latour delivered the keynote speech titled “Networks, Societies, Spheres: Reflections of an Actor-network theorist.” The four panels were focused on conceptual and methodological aspects of network theory, network inclusion and exclusion, network theories of power, and the semantic web.
